Students used the techniques of traditional Japanese Notan art to create their own Notan design showing positive and negative space. Students drew an original design (organic, geometric or combination), cut out each shape and flipped the paper to the outside creating a symmetrically balanced, positive and negative image.
Goals:
- Understand the elements of art: space and shape
- Learn the difference between positive and negative space.
- Identify the difference between organic and geometric shapes.
- Learn how to create organic Notan designs, geometric Notan designs, and a combination of organic + geometric Notan designs.
- Create a Notan.
